Word from Nairnshire

John said two things about Jesus after he had plunged him in the waters of the Jordan River.

He called him the Lamb of God, or more accurately the ram of God, as Jesus Christ certainly bore no resemblance to a cuddly new born lamb, as is frequently depicted in coats of arms or stain glass windows.

Jesus was the sacrificial Passover Lamb, a man in his prime, who would shed his blood to take away sin.

John also taught that Jesus would be the one who would baptise with the Holy Spirit.

Not even the disciples attempted to preach or teach without being baptised in the Holy Spirit. Jesus had instructed them to wait in the city of Jerusalem until they had received that essential anointing power.

It was forty-one years ago today when the risen, living, and ascended Lord Jesus Christ baptised me in the Holy Spirit, with the same consequences as those experienced on the Day of Pentecost, and similar evidence – trouble!

Do not be misled into thinking that when Jesus Christ calls you and equips you for service, that all your troubles will be over. That was not the experience of the early Church.

Persecution and imprisonment quickly followed Pentecost.

When Jesus Christ appeared John said, “Look”. Stop. Pause. Gaze upon this unique sight, and consider his importance and significance.

John gave his personal testimony regarding Jesus and that is also vital.

Be prepared to speak openly and unashamedly about your faith in Jesus Christ.

The New Testament knows nothing of people who kept their faith to themselves. They share it.

There are two occasions when we are to preach the Word of God – when it is OK to do it and when it is not OK to do it.
