When certain specific questions arise from various sources, that can be a sign of an issue which is currently important, in the life of an individual, or in the lives of many individuals.

One of the first questions to be raised in the Bible was, “Where are you?”

Having sinned by disobeying God, this man and woman are trying to hide from Almighty God.

They are afraid, ashamed, guilty, separated from God, and what had been pure and innocent and beautiful was now marred and broken, but God in His grace is offering this opportunity to sort things out and to remedy what had gone tragically wrong.

“Where are you?” Where have you got yourselves to?

Here is the occasion to correct and put right their previous disobedient behaviour, but the blame game begins, as Adam blames Eve, and Eve blames the serpent.

“Where are you?” It was not a physical question. God knew where they were, and He knew they were hiding.

It is a spiritual question, which is highly relevant today.

When they sinned, they saw the fruit was pleasing and desirable so it was taken and eaten.

How many have landed up in trouble by that route?

I saw the chocolate bar. It looked good. I took it and ate it, and on I went to develop my habit of theft.

As soon as they realised the purity and innocence had gone, they made aprons. Not hats or socks or gloves. How interesting!

Almost intuitively they knew where the danger lay, and that moral danger continues.

When Almighty God draws near asking, “Where are you?” what is your response? How do you answer Him?

No, it was not the apple on the tree that caused all the trouble, but the pair on the ground.
