Whatever do you do when you do not know what to do?

What did these disciples do, following the resurrection of Jesus, and that unexpected encounter with the risen Christ beside the Galilean Lake, during this interim period when nothing seemed to be happening?

With God something is always happening!

They all reassembled back in Jerusalem and over a period of forty days Jesus showed Himself to His chosen men, and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive.

Doubts were dispelled totally, although the way forward was not as yet clear.

Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God.

Some did mistakenly interpret this as Israel becoming an independent kingdom, with the occupying power of Rome being overthrown. The risen Jesus would then be a type of political king, with the disciples being allotted offices of state.

He clarified the situation. He always does.

The book of Acts makes it all so very clear.

If we did not have the book of Acts, what would we make of the rest of the New Testament? It would be like if Exodus were the first book in the Bible. Have you ever considered that?

Who are these people who are slaves in Egypt and why are they so important to God?

Genesis explains all that, just as Acts explains how we come into the Church of Jesus Christ.

They had to trust Jesus, and exercise patience, until the time was right.

That is an essential lesson, and it is best to learn it as soon as possible.

The kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat and drink, nor is it related to political power.

The character of the kingdom is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

That is certainly worth waiting for.
