Peace
Date Posted: August 30, 2011

All over the world people are searching for peace, and seeking peace, and yet this was the first thing Jesus Christ gifted to his men on resurrection evening.

This broken warring world is living on the wrong side of the resurrection and it is the task of the Church of Jesus Christ to explain that there are answers to all the pain, suffering, sadness and tragedy.

Between the cross and resurrection the disciples were groping around in emotional darkness, and that is where so many find themselves today.

For three years they had been with Jesus, and within a few hours their world was crushed and crumpled and shattered, and as far as they knew, destroyed.

“The miraculous healings, the supernatural feeding, these wonderful parables, have all gone – as have our businesses!”

Men continue to search pathetically for some man-made humanistic solution to the various increasingly serious problems.

Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Almighty God has spoken, and has spoken a final word.

These eleven disappointed defeated men transformed the world, when they were anointed and equipped by the risen and ascended Christ.

The needs have not changed and the answer has not changed either, nor has He gone away.

Shame and fear caused these men to meet behind closed locked doors.

Shame and rejection and various other destructive emotions cause people to withdraw and hide.

The risen Jesus came to his men, and realising how terribly fearful they were, He spoke twice about peace and twice He imparted peace to those who so needed peace.

Peace is an elusive quality. We can do all sorts of things to cover up our lack of peace.

After Pentecost, we never read of any of the negative emotions which we witness in the Upper Room.
