Word from Nairnshire

The political conference season draws to a close. What might the reaction be if one speaker arose to say, “You know, we are in a mess, and we deserve to be in a mess. It is time to turn to Almighty God and ask for mercy, help, and guidance.”

One outstanding leader did exactly that. He saw the serious condition of the people. He realised the cause of the suffering, and discerned, that as nation, “we are getting what we deserve!” Why?

God had been so good to people, providing them with everything. When they started going wrong God gave them verbal and written warnings, but the people closed their ears and hearts. They took no notice of the words of men of God, thinking they knew far better.

“Let us change the ancient laws. We are progressive. We can advance and break away from former moral standards. If men want to live in a certain manner, we will accommodate that, legally. Should anyone speak too strongly, or challengingly, about God and Jesus Christ and Bible, we will put a stop to that, legally.”

Daniel humbly went to prayer when he saw people covered, or bent over, with shame.

The weight of the consequences of sin was breaking people.

Men had rebelled, acting disobediently, and such wickedness brought catastrophe, as the harvest of unfaithfulness was reaped.

Daniel acknowledged that God had every right to bring such great disaster.

It was not a popular message then, and it would not be a popular message today. Prophets do not get promoted. They get pelted.

Daniel knew what was happening, and why it was happening, and when he went to prayer he was given spiritual understanding and insight.

He asked a righteous God to hear and listen and act, and He did.
