Where do you go, and what do you do, when you are released from prison?

Over the years, I have observed people being released from all kinds of imprisoning circumstances.

Peter and John went back to their own people and they were welcomed with warmth and open arms.

These two leaders knew from the very outset that the Christian Faith was exclusive and inclusive, where no one would ever be excluded, and where everyone could be included. They were not going to fall at the first hurdle.

Wealthy women and tough prison officers were able to fellowship together without any social or cultural difficulties.

Rich and poor, black and white, learned and unlearned, can all be one in Christ, and we see this during these early days.

The only thing the Church of Jesus Christ is against is sin.

Peter and John were more concerned about people’s salvation than their safety, and that is an exciting way to live.

On returning to the Jerusalem fellowship, they report what they had been through, and when those who believed in Jesus Christ heard their account, they launched out in prayer.

There is no feeling sorry for themselves and not a hint of self pity on anyone’s part.

Nothing needed to be said to motivate these disciples to pray.

They needed no coaxing, and hearing about having to coax or encourage believers to pray would have been strange to their ears.

With Peter and John present, they prayed for two things. Go on giving us boldness and courage to preach, and keep doing the miracles.

Their praying is more concerned about continuous proclamation than personal safety and protection.

As the first wave of persecution hits this dynamic group, just as Jesus had predicted, they do not sink, but sail on.
