Word from Nairnshire

Much has been said and written recently regarding keeping religion private.

Religion should be kept private and the more private the better. Religion is so burdensome with its rituals, regulations and traditions.

Faith in Jesus Christ is a very different matter. You will not find the slightest hint anywhere in the Bible that faith in Jesus Christ should be kept under wraps, like “you in your small corner and I in mine”.

Those who heard of Jesus Christ, and who have come to believe in Jesus Christ, and been baptised in water and filled with the Holy Spirit, are so grateful that the speaker, teacher, preacher, testifier, refused to keep his faith private.

Peter and John, Paul and Barnabas, Silas and Timothy, did the very opposite of keeping their very real, vital, and vibrant faith a private matter.

Of course, it meant then, as it does for many today, that they were rejected, ostracised and even imprisoned.

Not even in prison did they keep their faith private. The leading jailor heard Paul and Silas at midnight praising and worshipping the living God, and before dawn he and his family responded, and had come to faith in Jesus Christ, being baptised in water and filled with joy.

If you are born again in the New Testament sense of the phrase then give thanks to Almighty God for your salvation, and for those who shared Jesus Christ with you and took you to the water.

That now involves a responsibility, and obedience to Christ, of sharing the Gospel with everyone we can, and in every way we can.

It will be costly. It always is.

It has been costly since Jesus publicly climbed the slopes of Calvary and shed His blood and died.
