Word from Nairnshire

Reconciled

In one of our Bible readings at the start of this year, powerfully penetrating thoughts flowed from a passage in Paul’s second letter to the Church of Jesus Christ in Corinth.

Paul made it his goal to please Jesus Christ in all he sought to do. His preaching, teaching, and writing, had this focused aim. Paul wanted to please Jesus.

The Church knew what it was to fear God. That did not mean they were afraid of God, but that they held Him in awe, and spoke of Him reverently, never wanting His smile to leave them.

To live like this, people need to have a clear conscience.

These disciples of Jesus were willing to be demeaned.

Men demeaned Jesus and the apostles were demeaned too. That can be a difficult experience to embrace, but these believers were constrained, or compelled, by the love of Christ, which is certainly a motivating factor, enabling you to serve faithfully through all kinds of trials and difficulties.

They were encouraged to grow in their ability to forget self. That too can be challenging, as they were taught to stop judging people according to the flesh.

We hear a lot about the New World Order, but these Corinthian disciples were reminded that they arose and served as new creations, which is the only New World Order that will work.

To know the significance of the sovereign grace of God will keep a man going when he might consider giving up or giving in. It kept Paul going, as he taught those ambassadors of Christ to live lives which were appealing.

It is comforting to know that you are never anything more, nor anything less, than someone for whom Jesus Christ shed His blood, that you may be reconciled to God.
