Word from Nairnshire

Rejoice
Date Posted: April 5, 2011

A missionary came home from an overseas field, having been away for five years, and spoke, describing how he had led one man to faith in Jesus Christ, but only one man. The Chairman announced at the close of that ‘Missionary Evening’ that he would rather have been able to do that, than write all the best books in the world.

Missionary, be comforted!

Missionary, be encouraged!

This world is blundering on in a morass of sin and sorrow and sadness and suffering. Here and there, there are lights shining in the darkness, and, please God, may we be one of these lights.

We meet people with painful personal problems. There are brave faces hiding sore hearts. Secret wounds cause many to weep in private. There is a restlessness where peace appears to be almost impossible.

Life is harder for some than we, in Christ, dare to imagine.

Some think that if there is a God, He has forgotten them, or He has walked by them, or He is just not interested in them.

The very people of God, Israel, thought that, when they were going through tough times.

When their tormentors teased them to sing a song of praise to Almighty God, they couldn’t.

They had hung up their guitars and laid aside their instruments, and yet people were praying and asking God how long it would be before all this suffering might come to end.

They needed an Advent.

They needed God to come to them and comfort them with strength and courage, just as we do today, in individual’s lives, and across the nation.

Then it happened in Bethlehem during the Feast of Tabernacles, in late September, when Jesus Christ was born.

When Jesus Christ breaks through, that life can sing, Rejoice! Rejoice!
