Responsibility

Remaining biblically balanced is challenging in these current financial circumstances. After all, just what exactly is happening? Discerning is not always easy.

An experienced and trusted colleague recently sent out an urgent message to consider seriously that the present crisis is not recession, nor depression, but judgement!

Is God judging the raging sins of the nations? The secular foundations are undoubtedly being shaken.

Many are laying up a thirty day store of non-perishable food and other essentials, but in parts of Kenya it would difficult to store up a thirty hour food supply, and yet, we hear of there being ample food stocks in neighbouring Uganda.

The Word of God teaches and warns regarding the horrendous consequences of ingratitude and rebellion, and rebellion can reveal itself in greed, corruption and selfishness, with judgmental punishment being inevitable.

Society has tried to move away from the concept of punishment.

During Nehemiah’s reformation, the nation knew they had to return to the ways of God, or recovery would never happen.

One of the clauses involved the cancellation of all debts. Would there not be many who would enjoy the blessing of that stipulation?

But, we need the whole law, and not simply the parts that might appear more attractive.

The people also announced that they would assume responsibility. Now, there’s a thought.

We have mountain top experiences and seasons when it appears we are in the valley, where the light is not so bright.

It can be in times of very real darkness that God chooses, redeems, and raises up a leader to shepherd people out of their predicament.

Under Nehemiah the people had the courage to commit, but this depth of commitment arose from the clear exposition and teaching of the Word of God.
