Ruins

Many situations are currently lying in ruins.

Finances, hopes, dreams, plans, moral standards, various individual’s circumstances, are suddenly lying in heaps of rubble.

When Jerusalem’s walls were just a pile of demolished stones, God raised up Nehemiah to rebuild and repair.

God is still in the business of rebuilding and repairing.

Nehemiah was a top man in Persia. Only the king could permit him to travel the 1,000 miles to Jerusalem, and only the king had the resources to enable Nehemiah to rebuild what had been destroyed, and also ensure him safe passage throughout the hazardous journey.

He was sent, safe, and supplied with what he needed.

Two men were extremely displeased at what was about to happen.

Whenever someone says, “Let us arise and build”, there is usually someone around who will say, “Let us arise and stop him”.

We see this in the life of Jesus Christ. Herod, not long after Jesus was born, and thirty years later, Pilate, Caiaphas, another Herod, along with Pharisees and Sadducees, all did what they could to hinder or stop the work of God.

Nehemiah took around two months to reach Jerusalem and he found a real mess.

He briefed himself regarding the actual situation, surveyed the scene under cover of darkness, identifying the difficulties, and noting the needs. The debris was so widespread he was forced to dismount, completing the inspection on foot.

Walls that had stood tall and strong were in a sorry state.

The size of the job ahead of him did not depress him, nor cause him to postpone the possibilities of rebuilding what was in ruins.

It was a salutary picture, but Nehemiah assessed the facts, rose to the task, and started the work which God had called him to do.
