Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
Last Sunday evening, a Prison Chaplain colleague phoned a BBC programme dealing with the apparent escalation in stabbings and shootings.
He spoke about “the sanctity of life, and how once that goes, everything is up for grabs”.
God has said, "You shall not murder".
God also says, "You may be sure your sin will find you out".
Why is murder so abominably wrong? Man was created in the image of God.
Murder is more than the highest form of theft. It is more than just stealing someone else's life.
Murder is wrong because it is sacrilege. Man is different from every other part of Creation.
Murder is lifting up your hand against something holy - against the image of God.
Few people need to be convinced that murder within their own society is wrong.
“YOU shall not murder.”
YOU must not deliberately kill, whether premeditatedly, or in the anger of the moment.
God is the giver of life, and He alone has the authority to take it or grant men permission to take it. Yet, His mercy and forgiveness remains available to sinners, including murderers.
Jesus Christ expanded and amplified the meaning and realm of murder to include animosity, contempt and hateful hostility towards others.
It is possible to murderously assault a man's reputation and respect, through rumour and verbal attack.
God requires that we do not harm or hurt another human being by our words or deeds.
God desires that we treat those who choose to hate us, as respectfully as possible, and do all within our capabilities to live in peace and harmony.
God wants us to be builders and not destroyers. The sanctity of life is crucial.
Life is a precious gift, which must not be attacked.
