Sentimental

What do you do after a great project and task is completed?

After the reconstruction of the broken walls around Jerusalem, we have the reinstruction of the people, and then Nehemiah selects and appoints reliable men to whom he can delegate important responsibilities.

It is during a time of crisis that a man’s character is revealed.

Nehemiah was a strong man. Despite all the opposition while he was supervising the rebuilding of what had been lying in ruins, he maintained his confidence in God.

A man of lesser character and ability might have given up or compromised under all the pressure surrounding him.

Character is crucial when it comes to leadership. If we don’t have character, then whatever else we may have amounts to little or nothing.

Nehemiah appointed men who were concerned for others, and who could serve and lead with integrity.

Such leaders, with servant hearts, are sorely needed today throughout our nation at this critical time.

Watchmen were instructed as to how to safeguard the city. For the gains to be guarded, vigilance was essential.

We often see Nehemiah talking to God or God talking to Nehemiah.

This might sound strange to many and anathema to some, but to consolidate the work he knew what was needed, and these elements and principles have not changed.

He also realised how vital it was to have morality and purity among the people of God.

When we read the words of Jesus Christ we see there too that there is no room for false sentimental thinking or compromise, where leadership is involved.

Nehemiah completed the work, protected the people, arranged for worship, and planned for teachers to give sound solid practical and helpful teaching.

Here was a man backboned with God’s spiritual mettle.
