Surely not
Date Posted: June 30, 2007

When Peter explained what happened when Jesus Christ poured out the Holy Spirit upon 120 disciples in the Temple in Jerusalem, on that day called Pentecost, those who listened attentively asked, "What shall we do?"

People always want to do something. It is vitally important that they are told what God requires. Peter gave a simple comprehensive answer.

"Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

When men and women came to believe in Jesus Christ, this was the one complete answer, which fitted every occasion.

When a man repents, he turns away from his own sinful ways to God. It is an incisive specific command. The believer submits in obedience to God.

This is not an emotion. It is a decision. You do not do it because you feel like doing it.

Having come to believe in Jesus and turning to God, it is sealed by submitting to God at the hands of men, as the disciple is baptised in water.

Accompanying these acts of obedience there is the seal of Jesus, as the individual receives the Holy Spirit.

This is God's plan purpose and intention for every believer.

Nowhere does God indicate that this has been modified, changed or altered to suit a different day, age or culture.

Do I need to? Surely not me! Yes, we all need to.

God wants you to know how to come into the Church.

When someone hears about Jesus, and wants to respond, God tells him precisely what to do to be properly birthed as a believing obedient disciple.

It is God's answer, and not an optional extra.
