Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
Not all are able, but most are.
Just hours prior to Jesus being crucified He is praying, and the words He prayed have been accurately recorded for succeeding generations.
He asks His Father not to take these disciples out of the world, but to protect them from the evil one. Was this not a risky prayer?
Those men whom He chooses and calls are then commanded to pass on the message of mercy, sacrifice, forgiveness and love.
How would people around the world hear of the grace of God if it were not for those members of the body of Christ, who courageously proclaim and herald the truths revealed through Jesus?
When writing that previous sentence I typed embers instead of members. In various countries, where believers are presently being torched and burned, both words are apposite.
There are people in so much need that we understand some are saying, “God, if there is a God, let me meet a real live committed Christian who might be able to help me!” Others may be watching closely to see if there is any depth regarding what we claim to believe.
As the evil one pours out cold water in an attempt to douse the fire of God in men’s hearts, the risen Jesus is pouring on the oil of the Holy Spirit to keep the flames of faith burning bright.
If you are going to be a Christian, don’t tiptoe. Be one!
Can you imagine Peter or Paul going around the world tiptoeing their faith imperceptibly and secretly?
However, in Afghanistan, the few believers we know about, have to praise, worship and pray on metaphorical tiptoe, lest every burning branch be immediately destroyed.
From the beginning, Christians have been a privileged people, and a persecuted people.
