Jeremiah, like every true prophet, spoke from God, and spoke for God, and his words came true. That is the mark of a true prophet.

Beware of the man who says something is going to happen, and it does not.

The prophet is a key to what God is saying to the church, or to the world. He reveals or interprets what God is doing in the world, or what He is about to do.

Take care not to lose the key or throw away the key. They did that in Jeremiah’s day, and they did the same in Jesus’ day.

Humanly speaking, Jeremiah would have preferred to shrink back or slip away, but there was fire burning in his bones.

A prophet cannot keep silent. It can be most disturbing to have a prophet around and especially is this true where sin abounds. He upsets, challenges, shakes.

When people see him coming, he reminds them of God.

He cannot tolerate injustice, hypocrisy, falsehood and oppression, and he is forever seeking to please God.

Jesus, in His prophetic ministry, was always seeking to please the Father.

Jeremiah pleased God, as did John the Baptist, and Peter and Paul in the New Testament.

How a man of God is called is important, as is what God says to him, and how people respond to his ministry.

Jeremiah prophesied for some 45 years, and it was as though he was building a wall for God, brick by brick, and stone by stone, as the visions and pictures and words tumbled out.

He faced all kinds of attacks and trials and tribulations. Regularly vandals would come along and try to break down the wall he was building for God.

Their descendents attacked Jesus similarly.
