A True Measure
'Chip Shots from the Ruff of Life' from Tom Kelley
One of the items that I keep handy on my desk is a tape measure. It's a small one. It only measures about two inches square and is barely a half inch thick. Yet this diminutive Stanley PowerLock will measure distances up to ten feet which makes it indispensible as an aid for me in my office. Most of the measuring I do in my office is to see if a bookcase or other piece of furniture might fit in a certain area.
This very day I will be using my sleek little steel encased beauty to rearrange my bookcases so I can get a little more room for books in my office space. Since our

The Solution
''Winging It' from Stan Smith
We have all heard about the terrible shooting in Orlando. Awful. Called the worst mass shooting in American history, too many people lost their lives at the hands of a single deranged gunman pledging allegiance to ISIS. It seems odd, then, although not unexpected, that the first corrective we hear from most corners is gun control. The second appears to be to eliminate Christians.
According to Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla, the weapon that was used could fire 700 shots per minute. Now, I don't know about you, but I had no idea that that kind of firepower was available on the streets

Helping the Grieving, Part 2
'The Way' from Kevin Pauley
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. – Romans 12:15
When you are with those who are grieving, do not judge and do not give them orders. Don’t tell how they should feel. Don’t try to tell them how they should deal with things. If they want to invest money in a larger coffin that you think is necessary, let them. If they want to paint a life-size picture of their loved one – let them! Socially acceptable grief does not exist. Grieving is how individual humans with unique gifts, talents, temperaments, psychological makeup and backgrounds

Snow III (1-20-11)
'Today's Little Lift' from Jim Bullington
It was right between the sidewalk and the street, the largest one third of a snowman I had ever seen. I don't know who made it, but it appeared on day one of Atlanta's snow last week. Actually I don't even know that it was intended to be a third of a snowman, but it seemed to fit. It appeared that someone had intended to build a gigantic snowman, but all the energy was sapped out of him/her just from preparing the lower body of the snowman. Besides, even if the person could have managed to make the middle sphere of the snowman's body, it would have taken a construction crane to have

A Comforting Word for Hurting Anxious Worried People
'Word from Scotland' from Sandy Shaw
Isaiah Chapter 40 verses 1 to 15. We are living at a time when we need to know the comfort of our comforting God – but also what that word ‘comfort’ really means in Scripture – and it has its same meaning in 2025.
Look at the setting – it is important to understand

Laying of hands to receive the Spirit
'Refreshment in Refuge' from Gina Burgess
Several years back, I had wondered why the apostles had to journey to Samaria to "lay hands" upon those believers there in order for them to receive the Holy Spirit. I took a closer look at the over all indwelling of the Holy Spirit which led to a closer study of the gifts of the Spirit.
I believe that understanding comes from asking God for help with my understanding so I asked Him. Several passages and other things came to my attention concerning this. One was Peter's vision of the sheet dropping down with all types of food to eat (including those things that were

Don't Do It!
'Voice of Inspiration' from Andy Castro
Stop!
Wait!
Put that pen down!
Don't do it!
Do not write your goals down. At least not until you have read this blog.
I've gone through this for to many years. Setting goals for the new year and failing at them. Here is how I now look at goals and goal setting. (Short version)
Every thing that man has done, invented or created began with a thought. When Cain killed Abel it began with a thought. When the first horse carriage was created, it began with a thought. When we get up in the morning to get our coffee, tea or soda, it begins with a thought. All we do

The Word Processors
''Christ in You...'' from Dale Krebbs
We are all processors of words. All kinds of words. Words we hear others say, words we read, and simply words we may see, but may not understand. We react immediately upon hearing or seeing many different words. Every human reacts in a different way, whether very subtly or vocally, others we have no visible or realized reaction. The manner in which we react is largely determined by life experiences up until we hear the word or words, coupled with heredity. Our responses to all words are modified by life events, and inherited proclivities along with input from a conglomerations

Applaude Yourself!
'Inspiration For You' from Randy Mitchell
There’s a wonderful saying, “Go where you’re celebrated, not where you’re tolerated.”
When I think about these words, so many meanings come to mind: the people in your life and their attitudes towards you, the places you frequent socially, your workplace environment and those you meet for the very first time. They also raise the questions: are the people and surroundings you deal with supporting, loving, befriending, even helping you when you need them the most? Or do they pull you down, surround you with negative energy, refuse to acknowledge

Bible and Quote - April 21-25
'Bible verse and quote' from Jan Couns
For the sake of Your word, and according to Your own heart, You have done all this greatness (and) to let Your servant know. 2 Samuel 7:21
He has set forth by His Word the secrets of His will that He has decided to reveal to us. These He decided to reveal in so far as He foresaw that they would concern and benefit us. John Calvin 1509-64, The Institutes of the Christian Religion
You are great, O Lord God. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 2 Samuel 7:22
May my testimony inspire

His Unfailing Love, Our Hope
'God's Words For US' from Cecelia Lester
“May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD,
even as we put our hope in you.”
Psalm 33:22 (NIV)
This past Sunday was World Communion Sunday/Unity Sunday. The churches of my denomination in our town held a Unity Service at the High School auditorium.
This service came at the end of a weekend of being a part of a retreat experience with women from another church. As a result, I spent time reflecting on who I am, what I need to do to grow closer to the LORD, and how I can let the light of Jesus shine through to others.
Our bishop spoke
Many famous people have overcome some sort of physical difficulty to excel at what they do. Even some who were infamous became so through overcoming some handicap. Tamerlane, the Tartar who conquered all the land from India to Russia in the fourteenth century, was partially paralyzed. His name actually meant, "Timur the Lame." His feat is all the more remarkable when it is noted that superstition was rampant in the fourteenth century to the point where paralysis was viewed as

Words to Ponder
God would prefer we have an occasional limp than a perpetual strut. - Max Lucado (20th century)

1 Chronicles 17; Zechariah 6; John 4:43-54:
Then Nathan said to David, "Do whatever is in your heart, for God is with you." But it happened that same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, "Go and tell David My servant, 'This is what the LORD says: "You shall not build a house for Me to dwell in; for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from one dwelling
