Chip Shots from the Ruff of Life

Your Destination
Date Posted: August 6, 2020

Destinations. We all have, at some time, set out for a specific detination. If you belong to AAA you probably obtained a "Trip Tick" from them to help you get to your destination. Nowadays there are all sorts of computer programs and websites that can help us plot our way to even the most remote and insignificant of destinations. However, there are those who leave the destination determination to someone else.

In 2003 David Facey of "The Sun", a tabloid in London, England, had his paper book his travel plans for him to cover the Masters in Augusta, Georgia. He followed all the proper protocol and did what he was supposed to do for each leg of his trip according to the plans laid out for him by his London office. Facey was excited about his opportunity to cover the Masters and looking forward to some rather nice temperatures after the weather in London that spring.

As he approached Augusta on his connecting flight he realized that it was snowing. The reason it was snowing was because he was approaching Augusta, Maine, the destination set out for him by his office. When he finally got to Augusta, Georgia, after changing flights rather hastily in Maine, he discovered that he had no hotel reservation. His office had booked him a room in what was supposed to be Portland, Maine, close to Augusta. However, they inadvertantly confused the state and got Facey a hotel in Portland, Oregon.

Sometimes, even if we know where we are going others may not, and they could put a monkey wrench in the entire process. The biggest question to ask ourselves is, "Where am I going with my life and who is helping me get there?" If you are married, hopefully you and your wife have agreed on a destination and are working together to get there. If you're single, your friends are the support group. So where are you going?

I would certainly hope that your travel plans include an eternal vacation in heaven. Life is not a matter of from whence we have come but whence we go. "For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come, they would have opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country." Hebrews 11:14-16 The heroes of faith were not settled in this world. They were looking for something better. What is your destination?
