A Candle In The Dark
Date Posted: December 12, 2021

Satellites in space have taken pictures of the dark side of the earth. Very small towns can be seen appearing like a flickering, blinking light. Larger cities appear like clusters of candles scattered over landmass. Even large ships at sea can be seen if their deck lights are burning brightly, like tiny candles in a literal sea of darkness. A world of darkness within which a few are enabled to find their way home.

If God places His Light in someone's heart, someone else can find the way to that Light.. It only takes a little light - because it is so dark (Matthew 6:23). If God places love for light in the heart, it can find a way to the Source. It only takes a little light because it is so dark. If God places love for light in the heart of someone, that one can find his way through the darkness of this world, and find your light, if only that one can see the Light in you. But you must have that light. Again, it only takes a little light because it is so terrible dark. This world is in a very thick darkness. Light is brighter in a deep darkness, where there is no light, but that light must be there (John 1:4-5).

Those outside of the Christian faith judge Christianity by what they see - whether darkness or light in those who claim to be representatives of Christ. They also judge by what they hear, but they will go by what they see first, then secondarily by what they hear. Little Light makes words difficult to hear.

Think for a moment about how you experience a thunderstorm. Usually, you will see the lightning first. Then comes the sound - the thunder. Sometimes you may not hear the thunder at all. You only see the lightning. Sometimes, you may hear the thunder, and fail to see the lightning for various reasons. You will judge the storm by these two things, and draw conclusions about the storm. Sometimes the lightning and the thunder is very faint. None the less, you know the storm by what you perceive in the storm. So those who are a long a long distance from both the light and the sound will form opinions based upon the light and the sound. But they will believe what they see first.

Those who are living in the dark can be illustrated by a line from a famous movie when a wife saw her husband in a somewhat comprising situation, although he was innocent. His first response was "...are you going to believe what you see, or what I tell you!" Most people what they see.

In fact, it may not matter at all to them what is said. They have already made their determination according to what they see. If the light that is supposed to be in someone is darkness, then how can others see the value of your beliefs? (Matthew 6:22-23). Most of Christ's servants are not bright lights that illuminate very much darkness. Most enlighten a limited area of darkness around them - like the tiny flickering dots on the dark side of the earth.

Others, present more of a glow, with different colors that draw attention to the glory of the Light that is in them (John 9:5). Others, present the flickering light of a candle in dark places. Even so, it is enough to draw attention to the light, and some, in the darkness around them, are drawn to the only light they can see. How much light, and what type varies with each individual.

All the light of those who belong to Christ is a reflected light, because He is the source of light that lightens their light, whether a warm glow, or a brilliant beam, or - the flickering light of a candle, to which someone is drawn. Someone who is lost in the darkness of a darkened and deceived world. Don't let your candle go out, because someone may never see another light, and fail to escape their darkness. You may be the only real Light they will ever see that can guide them to the Light of eternal life

What type of light are you? Is it a beacon, a pathway through someone's darkness? Is this all you can be? - a candle in the dark? It is enough. Someone can find their way through their darkness to the Light, if you are reflecting the true Light that has come into the world.

They will observe how you live. Then, perhaps, they will hear what you say.

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven."- Matthew 5:14-16 (AMP)
