'Christ in You...'

Many have begun to ask the question, "what is happening to America?" It seems with each passing day we hear and read of rumors and scandals the likes of which modern times have not heard before.

National moral traditions and basic human relationships are altered, twisted, and set free of almost all concept of restraint. Anything goes. Its OK if one wants to do it.

Dishonesty and fraud becomes commonplace in high places. Some believe higher authorities are utterly corrupt and at best untrustworthy. Many assume that all those in high places are dishonest at the least. Some assume a much worse condition.

Assuming that much "rumor" is indeed true, one must ask - why? Who is to be blame.

Unfortunately, most speculation as to the cause has "the cart before the horse", to quote an old cliche'. Few it seems, are willing to look at the real cause of dishonesty and corruption in high places. It has been said that a nation ultimately receives what it has sown.To quote a biblical principle, one reaps what one sows. If this is true, then the ultimate source of political problems and corruption begin at home - with you and me, in the lives, thoughts, teachings, and dishonesty in everyday dealings and conduct.

The original moral base has been infiltrated and corrupted. The conduct of those in high places is simply a living out of the lack of a moral base in lower places - the populace. If the foundation is weak and becomes corrupt, the building begins to crumble. If the foundation becomes weak and unsound (morally and spiritually), the whole edifice becomes unstable at best. If the foundation can be strengthened sufficiently, the top can eventually be stabilized.

This is very difficult, and a very painful process. Also, it is dangerous. In the effort to stabilize a nation, there are so many variables and risks. The outcome depends on a complete turnaround in the minds and hearts of the populace that eventually permeates upward. Unfortunately, real change does not begin at the top and work downward. It is quiet the other way. The cure and the stabilizing of the nation begins from the ground, and moves upward.

"Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God [which He has laid] stands [sure and unshaken despite attacks], bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord stand apart from wickedness and withdraw from wrongdoing.” - 2 Timothy 2:19

For America, there must a working of national repentance. Yes, there's that word again...the one so many do not like to hear. Its too personal, even embarrassing to even speak the word! This writer has written before, and asked the question, "whatever happened to repentance?" It is seldom mentioned in places of worship, and even in conversations by professed Christians. Democracy exists and is based on numbers. Majority rule, etc. A nation claiming to be a Christian nation must be, or become so from the ground up. This means there must be national - not just political - turning to Jesus Christ and asking forgiveness of national - not only political - sins.

However, few it seems know what "sin" is. Therefore, they have little understanding of what they should do...and not do. Some say we must have a national revival. But revival will not become national unless there is understanding of what repentance is and what sin is. At one time, there was general - although not universal - understanding of the meaning of "sin" and "repentance".

This is the crossroad.

National understanding of sin, and lack of genuine repentance of sin.

Will the church and others tell America that it is our sins that have cut us off from God?

"O do not [earnestly] remember against us the iniquities and guilt of our forefathers! Let Your compassion and tender mercy speedily come to meet us, for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name! Deliver us, forgive us, and purge away our sins for Your name’s sake." - Psalm 79:8-9
