A Secret Place?

Is there a place of safety for God's chosen people in the future?

Observing the world in general, if one is observant of daily news feeds, it would seem many could need a "place of safety" very soon (the words "very soon" are up for definition of course...). Each passing day bad news seems to shock and crush our peace of mind, and hamper our performance in whatever we may be occupied with. As world conditions deteriorate progressively worse, is there a way to find assurance and peace of mind?

Ever since the Tower of Babel (Genesis) the world has been shrinking in a human global interactive sense: everything has been expanding faster and faster - sea-going ships to instant communications seem to speed up daily. This rapid expansion has, to this writer, occurred in what is called the "stair step phenomenon". The world seems to slow down at times, and crisis level off for awhile, and the world recovers from shock somewhat.

Then, slowly, or quickly, the world is in another crisis, and another step downward downward is taken. Then, slowly or quickly, although things have been changed, the world seems to stand on the downward step for awhile. Major crisis seem to have simmered down to a slow boil.

There is a scripture in the Old Testament prophets concerning the time of the end that is intriguing. It seems almost as though it was taken from the from page of a newspaper of today's world:

"And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." - Daniel 12:3-4

Could there be a more succinct statement of our world in one sentence? What is a Christian to do as the world seems to shrink by the hour, when any day disaster may be on our country, or our city, or..our doorstep - regardless of where we live?

There is a chapter in the Bible that has intrigued and even troubled many Christians. The chapter is beyond pinpointing a time of occurrence, or even a specific group of people, location, or time. This is rather lengthy. PLEASE... read the entire chapter below:

" He who [a]dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.

[Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent. For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot.

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation." - Psalm 91

There is a footnote referring to verse 1 at the end of the chapter quote which says:

("The rich promises of this whole chapter are dependent upon one’s meeting exactly the conditions of these first two verses (see Exodus 15:26)".)

Since there is no specific time frame of or identifying time marks, this Psalm seems to be a general message to all of God's people in times of crisis. It is both general and specific, so that it can be claimed by all Christians who have faith and meet the conditions.

Although no ones knows the day or the hour, God's time-frame for Christ's return seems to be increasing at an increasing rate, my we all as Christians consider prayerfully, the world, the times, and the our relationship to Jesus Christ.

There seems to be a place of safety in the future for those who qualify. How is your relationship to Christ today?
