Music is a language. A universal language, given by the grace of God, spoken in many ways by many different peoples, in a thousands of ways.

It is the voice of emotion, seeming sometimes to permeate the whole body. Music is a language of God. It is used by angels, and the human profane, the good , the bad, and the ugly. It is the voice of birds, even animals, even insects. It is often used to express profane and ungodly emotions unfortunately. Music conveys meanings, feelings, insights that no other language can transmit. Instrumental music can even drive away evil spirits:

"And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favor in my sight. And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him." - 1 Samuel 16:22-23

It is a language spoken by the human faculty of vocal cords; the same cords utilized in speech. it is spoken by the vibrations of strings, inside the body, and outside the body by instruments created by the body, changeable in a thousand way, impacting the ear-drums in a thousand ways. It is often called the "universal language" because it is universally accepted even if not always understood. We find this true with the angelic host that sang in praise of God as they hovered over the wise men in the fields announcing Jesus' birth.

Even at the time of the end, when God begins to prepare for Jesus to return, there is music in heaven. Angels singing, heavenly elders with harps and lyres playing their harps. We can only imagine perhaps millions of angelic host singing and playing musical instruments:

"And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth." - Revelation 14:2-3.

Music is somehow understood when speech fails to be understood or accepted. It is emotion, feelings, attitudes, opinions manifested. It can alter the emotions, feelings, attitudes, actions, and responses of others. Through music we convey joy, sadness, sorrow, as no spoken words can express. For good and sometimes not for good. It can change thought processes, opinions, and even actions.

Almost any human faculty can be changed in some way by what is called music. It can cause a human body to begin to move in cooperation with what it is speaking. It is used by the angels of God to praise, exhalt, and honor God who made them. It is used by humans to communicate that which cannot be spoken or expressed or otherwise communicated. It is used to express acceptance, rejection, anger, and - love.

Oh what a language! A language that can be used a thousand ways. Music is an instrument of God, and will be for eternity. If you are there, you will hear and see the angelic hosts singing, and playing instruments, praising God, and exulting and exhalting God with unspeakable sounds of instruments and voices.

Whatever musical language you enjoy, may it always tend to honor and glorify God, and benefit others.

Praise God! for His "unspeakable" gift of Music!
