'Christ in You...'

Eternal Forgiveness

As Christians, we have, in order to become Christians, been deeply convicted of our past sins.

Also, as Christians, we need to be convicted of our forgiveness as well as our sins.

Do you KNOW that you have been forgiven?

Some of us have trouble accepting and believing that we have been forgiven. It may be due to the memories in our heart and mind of our sinful past that causes us have a very difficult time with their past that hinders our spiritual growth, peace of mind, and can even distort our view of life in general.

Much of this problem involves forgiving the old self. When one does not forgive self, we are in effect denying that God has forgiven us. There is great need for Christians to completely forgive themselves, as well as others, like Christ has forgiven them. To not do so, is tantamount to refusing and denying the reality of the cross and all that it means.

So many need to "get past the past"!

Our memories enslave us.

There is a romantic melody written years ago that included, in a pleading tone that the other person would forgive and restore their relationship. Part of the melody included the pleading phrase "never mind what might have been!...". At the present time, in the now of your life, there are good memories and bad memories. But sometimes memory can be a curse and a burden.

You can forget that in order to be where your are - accepted in Christ - you have been called, accepted, and chosen by God the father, your sins blotted out by the blood of Jesus on his cross, now accepted as though your had never sinned. You are now perfect in Him! In addition you have been chosen to be a child of God the Father as part of His family.

Generally, memories are a mixture of pleasant things with the unpleasant that we wish we could forget. Sometimes, those who served in the military cannot bear their memories of the horrors of war. Some prefer to end their terrible memories by ending their own lives. Such is this thing we call memory. Rather than serving us, it can enslave and even destroy us.

Memories serve to position us on our spiritual journey. Although we do not know the end of our lives in the body, we normally know our beginning. Memories serve to stabilize our sense of the present, and considerations of the future.

But there is a time coming when memory of the past will be no more. It will have served the purpose that God intended, and then it will be useless, and be outdated. There will only be the present and the future for our eternal minds to use in the eternal kingdom of God. Not remembering will then be one of God's greatest gifts and blessing.

A time is coming when the past will not even come into mind. What a blessing that will be.

That is the promise to you as a Christian.:

"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth. And the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind" - Isaiah 65:17:

Your past, with all your mistakes, sins, bad memories, burdensome regrets will never, ever come into your mind!
You will be free at last from your haunting memories. This is true because when Jesus died for you, He blotted out everything in your mind that could even remind you of your sins. Another faculty that will also be blotted out is the sickening memory of what others have done to you.

When you were a fleshly human being, other people could have either spoken or physically injured you, and the memory of this may have burdened you, and have been very difficult for you to forgive them, and forget the injury or offense perpetrated on you. The anger that was so difficult to rid yourself of, and struggling with heaviness of this cross you had to bear, will be no more..

You will not remember in order for you to live forever with no painful remembrance of the past.

It will never again come into your mind..."never mind what might have been..."

"God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away." - Revelation 21:4
