In our world today - actually it has always been this way - there are many who are doing wonderful works.

There are mammoth organization that have done and are doing wonderful works of service: the providing of human needs, relieving the struggle of multitudes that cry out for help.

The list is almost endless, and their works are truly merciful and desperately need in a world of starvation, slavery. Some so massive that the average person will never know about. The works of mercy and compassion seem to be growing every day. The need and the efforts to fill that need.

However, all the good works of many will not save them from Jesus’ judgment.

Why?

Because perhaps the effort seemed so needful, somehow they forgot that knowing Jesus Christ was at best given only lip service.

Somehow, Jesus got pushed into a second-place position in all their activity.

Those who will be sharing God’s kingdom by attending the “wedding supper” when Jesus marries the church, will be clothed with the righteousness that Jesus spoke of when He stated that the righteousness of a true Christian must exceed that of those who only seem converted from the outside, but are not filled with Christ’s righteousness on the inside.

Jesus uses an analogy to picture the fate of those who feel they are converted, but are self deceived by depending on their works to save them:

“But when the king came in to see the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed [appropriately] in wedding clothes,
and he said, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wearing the wedding clothes [that were provided for you]?’ And the man was speechless and without excuse. But while they were going away to buy oil, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut and locked.” - Matthew 22:11-12

The wedding garment of a genuine Christian will be a clothing from the inside out, and manifested by his or her very being. Apparently some “Christians” will only appear to be Christians.

The fate of those who only pretend to be Christians will be, rather than eternal hellfire, eternity in darkness. Having lived a life of hypocrisy and pretense that they are genuine Christians, the pretense is eventually revealed.

Yes, it is a deep sadness and an irony that such a large effort to serve others becomes an abandonment of the One who made all possible. Have you as an individual, apart from large organization, been living on a foundation of sand?

Or the Rock? If on the Rock, you will never hear Him say: "I never knew you...".

“ Many will say to Me on that day [when I judge them], ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, and driven out demons in Your name, and done many miracles in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them publicly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me [you are banished from My presence], you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands] who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods and torrents came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be like a foolish (stupid) man who built his house on the sand.” - Matthew 7:22-23
