National Repentance
Date Posted: September 4, 2016

Is it possible for a whole nation to repent of its sins against almighty God it's Maker?

There is a very strange phenomenon occurring in the American religious community. It is difficult - if not impossible - to hear Christian leaders speak of repentance.

Sometimes it seems as though they avoid the word like the plague. However, this phenomenon has always been. From the times of the prophets of God until now. The word is very difficult to see in print, much less heard or seen someone referring to it. There are a few exceptions.

Below is one of them.

The daughter of Billy Graham, Anne Graham Lotz, has dared to call a spade a spade, and call America to genuine national repentance:

"Our nation is in a mess. Why? Could it be because America is losing God's blessing? His favor. Could our sin be provoking His judgment? Judgment that is not necessarily in the form of a nuclear dirty bomb, or another ISIS attack, or an economic collapse. But a Romans 1 judgment as God backs out of our national life and turns us over to ourselves," Lotz wrote on her web site.

The Christian Post reports that Graham recalled the Old Testament story of God punishing the nation of Judah for disobeying Him and going their own way. God warns a nation that judgment is coming. He doesn't want any to perish. But if a nation does not heed His warnings, He unleashes His anger and there is nothing — no one — who can prevent it. If God would judge His own beloved nation of Judah, why would we think America could escape?" Lotz asked.

"So … if we are coming under the judgment of God — if He is giving us over to ourselves, removing His blessing, protection, and favor — the solution will not be found in politics or the economy or the military or technology," she continued. Lotz said that Americans must turn back to God in true repentance. She added that she is reminded herself to think about how seriously she is seeking God. Lotz has often preached about the end times. She said she believes Christ will return within her lifetime:

"And I believe that if I live out my lifetime, a natural lifetime, I believe I will live to see the return of Jesus in the Rapture when He comes back to take us to be with Himself, which means preceding that there are going to be some signs. There are going to be some warnings."

In recorded biblical history, there has been only one instance of a nation that responded to a national warning that it must repent of it's sins, or be destroyed by God:

"And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." - Johah 3:1-10

Will America have more than one Jonah? Will America respond like Nineveh?

May God help us...
