'Christ in You...'

Origin Of Nations

One of the most dramatic and world shaping events occurred many centuries ago, and the world has never been the same since - literally. We find this recorded in the book of Genesis:

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth." - Genesis 11:1-9

Where did the different peoples - distinguished by language, dialects, color, physical attributes, etc.,migrate to? How did they get there?

Down through the ages since the tower of Babel, God's intervention in the lives of those peoples at the tower of Bable have continued to puzzle and challenge attempts to trace the migration routes of those who gathered together in multiple groups according to the language they were hearing spoken. And as they multiplied, each group began to fan out over the earth. Thus began languages and nations.

We know that the result of that scattering can be seen almost everywhere on the earth - from sea to sea, land to lands, and pole to pole. About a half century ago, an attempt was made to trace nations mentioned in the Bible to their locations in the modern world.

The result of part of that attempt is outlined below. Of course, there is no guarantee that all of the matchings are correct because there has been so much shuffling, combining, consolidating and migration due to wars and alliances down through the centuries. The following is a list of some the nations of the Bible and the existing corresponding nations as determined by the research that was performed:

God intervened at the tower of Bable to prevent mankind from progressing in knowledge so fast that they would destroy themselves, preventing them from accomplishing His purpose of bringing multitudes to be His immortal children. Some day, when Jesus returns, all nations will come to worship and obey Him regardless of ancestry, color, or language. In that day, the earth will finally speak only one language, so that all may obey and worship Him in unity, harmony, and peace.

"And everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles or Booths. And it shall be that whoso of the families of the earth shall not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, upon them there shall be no rain." - Zechariah 14:16-17 (AMP)
