The Call For Repentance
Date Posted: April 3, 2022

During these troublous times, where is the call for repentance?

Sin is the cause of troubles, tumult, confusion, and danger. This is true for individuals and nations. Nations are people compacted together. God has ordained all nations and set when and where He ordains them to be (Acts 17:26-28). The nations of today's modern world are exactly where God has placed them, and He deals with them according to their awareness of Him. With nations as with individuals God observes their relationship with Him.

If an individual or a nation ignores or neglects recognition of Him as the source of all blessing, life, and success, he will sometimes discipline them through direct intervention. Most of the time He simply lets them reap the consequences of their attitudes and actions. With nations, as with individuals, they are allowed to simply reap what they have sown. During the present time of national debate and political activities, there have been calls for individual and national prayer.

This is good and right. Strangely, along with these rightful calls, there has been very little call for individual and national repentance.

Why?

Is it because many do not know what repentance is? Is it because many do not know what to repent of? Or, perhaps some simply see no particular need for them to repent. They feel spiritually secure in a time of much insecurity. For some, perhaps it just never occurs to them.

When did we abandon the belief in our need for repentance? Are we so far from God that we have forgotten Him, and are self sufficient in our efficiency to care for ourselves on our own? Some are not sure He even exists. There is an old adage that asks the question: does God seem far away? Who moved...?

Perhaps our nation should ask and find the correct answer to this question - ASAP.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14
