'Christ in You...'

The Father's Calling
Date Posted: February 8, 2015

When someone comes to Jesus for salvation and eternal life, it is only because the Father has drawn them. It is not an act of the will of the person, although the Holy Spirit has initiated a desire to believe in Jesus.

Knowing this can often be comforting when we are praying for someone. It is God the Father who leads someone to Christ for salvation.

This is the source of much frustration, and a sore trial of the faith for those who persevered for so long without witnessing the salvation of a loved one, a friend - an enemy. There have been many times when someone has prayed for another for many years without the one prayed for ever showing any indication of coming to and believing in Jesus Christ for salvation.

Many of those who are prayed for eventually will to be convicted by the Holy Spirit to begin to draw them to Jesus, and from their heart, to believe in Jesus. Much relief of agonizing anxiety could be experienced by their understanding of a truth - God is almost never in a hurry.

Then the one who is beseeching God faithfully and for so long a time can come to terms with the truth that the callings to salvation are according to God the Father's timetable, and they can pray and wait in faith with patience and comfort for the Father to work in their life and the life of their loved one, accordingly. So often God test our faith by the little word - "wait!".

Perhaps Oswald Chambers has said it best:

"When God draws me, the issue of my will comes in at once - will I react on the revelation which God gives - will I come to Him? Discussion on spiritual matters is an impertinence. Never discuss with any one when God speaks.

Belief is not an intellectual act; belief is a moral ace whereby I deliberately commit myself. Will I dump myself down absolutely on God and transact on when He says?

If I will, I shall find I am based on Reality that is as sure as God's throne...belief must be the will to believe. There must be a surrender of the will, not a surrender to persuasive power, a deliberate launching forth on God and on what He has until I am no longer confident in what I have done. I am confident only in God.

The hindrance is that I will not trust God, but only my mental understanding.

As far as feelings go, I must stake all blindly. I must will to believe, and this can never be done without a violent effort on my part to disassociate myself from my old ways of looking at things, and by putting myself over on Him. It is God who draws me...

I am introduced into the relation by the miracle of God and my own will to believe, then I begin to get an intelligent appreciation and understanding of the wonder of the transaction" - Oswald Chambers

Jesus has made it clear that it is God the Father who will respond to prayers for others, in His way, and in His time.

We must rest in His will and faithfulness.

"No one is able to come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me attracts and draws him and gives him the desire to come to Me, and [then] I will raise him up [from the dead] at the last day. It is written in [the book of] the Prophets, And they shall all be taught of God [have Him in person for their Teacher]. Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father comes to Me—" - John 6:44-45 (AMP)
