The Heaviest Burden
Date Posted: October 30, 2016

There are always troubles, disappointments, discouragements in every life. Otherwise, we would not be human. Non-human species, have hurts but not in the way that God made us as humans. We are capable of all kinds of sorrows, feelings of joy, even some of that which we call happiness.

But there is one very heavy load that many carry that God never intended. It is one that, ironically, that we can unload at any time. Perhaps the reason is that this burden is seldom considered a burden. At times, it is even considered a pleasure.

However, this is a burden that can be unloaded by anyone who carries it. It only takes the will of restraint, and some time perhaps because it has easily become a habit. But the habit can be very difficult to break.

The burden of judging others.

Someone has said that the best way of discontinuing judging is "don't" - simply refuse to make any type of judgment of another human being. As humans, we are not qualified to make judgments of our own kind. A judgmental attitude and spirit can destroy anyone's life - ruin the personality, and even cause physical and emotional problems. One who judges another eventually judges himself.

Some may object by saying they are only criticizing (rightly or wrongly), not judging. As the old cliche goes, "tell it to the Judge" if they feel there is a difference.

This is addressed by Jesus, who explains the consequences of judging others. Deep down in the one who judges another, he judges and condemns himself. He that condemns another has automatically causes himself to be judged by the Judge of all. He that condemns (judges) another has, in doing so, judged himself to the exact degree as he has judged another.

As this condition continues, eventually the judgment of others is cast back upon the one so judging. If continued, it becomes an unbearable burden and eventually destroys the spiritual life of the one judging. Jesus never intended His believers to be judges. That is His domain. Not ours. Not only judging others cause us to bear a burden, but it also brings Christ's judgment on ourselves when that time comes when He will judge every human. We could be accused of usurping His position as the eternal Judge of all humanity.

Do not judge another. Lest you be accused by the supreme Judge of usurping His eternal position as the Judge of all:

"Do not judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves. For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you...." - Matthew 7:1

Let us not judge others. To their own Master they will stand or fall.

There is a time coming when - then and only then - will certain ones who are qualified be given the responsibility to judge others.

"And then I saw thrones, and sitting on them were those to whom judgment [that is, the authority to act as judges] was given. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had refused to worship the beast or his image, and had not accepted his mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years." - Revelation 20:4
