'Christ in You...'

The Power Of A

The expression in quotes above made a striking impression on an ambulance driver and his assistant several years ago that they surely have never forgotten. I certainly haven’t!

I was not there when it occurred, but I have never forgotten the story. Which story is true…

A good friend of my deceased wife lived alone in a two-story apartment. She was in poor health, with several bodily afflictions which seemed to become steadily worse as the weeks and months passed by. Her health seemed to steadily worsen.

An ambulance was called in the middle of a night to her apartment. However, as I remember the event, the ambulance was not called by her, but by someone else in the apartment house. The ambulance driver and his assistant went up the stairs, found her, and insisted that she allow them to take her to the hospital. This all occurred in the middle of a dark night. The lady finally allowed them to get her into the wheelchair. They apparently insisted that she let them take her down the stairs, and into the ambulance quickly. She apparently refused to allow them to take her to the hospital, to which the ambulance drivers said, “…but Marie, if we don’t get you there immediately, you could die!”…to which she said firmly:

“So??”!…

Finally, after some strong insistence, she allowed them to load her into the ambulance.

Those of us who were familiar with her and the event could not keep from laughing, not at her or the seriousness of her condition, but the manner she approached her circumstances…and her life or possible death.

We knew her and her amazing faith and belief in Jesus’ eminent return.

Ever since this event, when my family and I experience some unexpected or threatening news that tended to upset us, we would comfort each other with a “So….??…..”. Regardless of the seeming seriousness of some upsetting news which we could not change we would always reply to each other the “Marie response”….SO?? Then laugh a little and go on with life.

Marie died a year or so latter…awaiting resurrection and eternal life.

When unexpected events occur in your life that you cannot change, can you say “So??…and pray and leave it in Christ’s hands? Marie did…and she is awaiting her resurrection and a glorious eternity.

If you believe in Jesus Christ, the next time life seems impossible to handle…just say ”SO??”
