REST

How many times have we longed for that short and simple word of only four letters!

There are many ways and many circumstances in which Jesus will give you rest. Jesus is also speaking to the world - if all the world would come to Him, it would not be long before the world would be at peace.

But - it all depends again on the largest and the smallest word in the world..."if".

Much has been preached, written, and prayed concerning what Jesus actually meant. His stated condition for receiving what He promised is often overlooked in the first part of that promise.

What did He mean by "come to me"...?

We can learn more when we read more of what He said in conjunction with the often qouted part of what He said.

The only way to experience this type of rest is to give up our striving in order to find it somewhere else. This is the rest that the world longs for, but in the main does not understand.

It is looking in all the wrong places.

Additionally, those who long for this genuine rest of their soul do not accept it (or even recognize it) when they are informed of it. They do not accept it because they will not believe in Him.

Belief is the first enablement to receive rest:

“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, the person who hears My word [the one who heeds My message], and believes and trusts in Him who sent Me, has (possesses now) eternal life [that is, eternal life actually begins—the believer is transformed], and does not come into judgment and condemnation, but has passed [over] from death into life." - John 5:24

It is getting more and more weary with each passing day month and year. This Jesus who pleaded for all to come to Him for this rest, gives little hope that very many will come to Him for their rest. The world is far from Him. Hence, unless there is a worldwide turning from it ways, it will continue to long for that which they are unaware - Jesus Christ. His rest would result to all that the world is longing for.

The Bible leaves little hope that the world will come to Him for its rest. The world has needed this rest for ions of time. From Cain and Able to this day. Most, when they understand, do not come to Him. They prefer the yoke of the world. So, the yoke of the world becomes heavier day after day - year after year.

The world needs rest. But most do not believe.

Are you weary? Christ says, come to Him and find rest. Rest for your very being.

Can you hear Him?

Can you believe?

This is the key to rest.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls." - Matthew 11:28-29
