Unforgivable Sin?
Date Posted: July 9, 2017

Is there anything one can do or say that will not be forgiven?

Is there any event, thought, or circumstance that could cause one to speak against that other member of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit? Some deny God the Father and Jesus who paid our penalty for our sins, but is there a sin that will not be forgiven?

That one sin consists of " blaspheming" the Holy Spirit. Admittedly this is difficult to understand using human reasoning and logic.

The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter. He is the ultimate in gentleness and love. He is God although in separate service to God in all things regarding the salvation of the human family. He is the ultimate of gentleness and compassion. He is love's perfection to the ultimate. Therefore, to offend or speak any way disrespect of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven - in this world or the next. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is denying all the work of the Holy Spirit.

He is the member of the Godhead that begins to convict and convince one of the need for repentance. Through gentle urgings He begins to work with individuals according to God's plan for those chosen be called and, upon surrender and belief, to receive the very indwelling of the Holy Spirit which seals that person for eternal life.

Speaking against the Holy Spirit is the same as rejecting Jesus Christ and His deity, and God the Father.

“Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy [every evil, abusive, injurious speaking, or indignity against sacred things] will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the [Holy] Spirit will not be forgiven.
Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." - Matthew 12:31-32

To speak against Him is to deny and forfeit any hope of genuine repentance. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is denying all the work of the Holy Spirit. This leads ultimately to a permanent rejection of the deity of Christ. Rejection of the deity of Jesus Christ causes a hardness of heart that cannot be reached, and leads to a hardness of heart and being that cannot be changed. It seals the fate of the human soul.

Needless to say, no one should resist the urgings and working of the Holy Spirit in one's heart. It could eventually lead to thinking against the Holy Spirit's urging which ultimately cannot be undone. Whatever one's attitude or feelings concerning one's salvation, never, but NEVER, speak against the Holy Spirit.

He is active in all things on earth regarding salvation for those being called and convicted of sin, and those who are being urged and led to repentance, and belief in Jesus Christ for eternal salvation. When we repent of our sins, and believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are sealed. We are sealed by that same Holy Spirit, the member of the Godhead who will be with us - and always be with, and in us, forever.

Then, the role of the Holy Spirit in this live is to be our Paracletos (Greek), "one called alongside to help".

"If you love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you." - John 14:15-18
