What Happened To Repentance
Date Posted: December 10, 2017

This will be short… but terribly important. PLEASE continue…

Where is it?

This thing (if it can be described as a “thing”) called “Repentance”?

Yes…WHERE IS IT…if it still exists?

Several years ago this writer wrote several articles concerning repentance. Repentance on a personal, religious, and national scale, that must occur or the nation - and the world - is in very deep trouble.

A few others (a few) voiced the same requirement: unless we as a nation repents, and unless there is a genuine, national, spiritual revival we will be in very deep trouble. Yes, we hear a weak, small voice here and there…but genuine emphasis? No.

Something that needs to be shouted from the mountain tops, and yelled from Christian revivals, and congregations whether large or small has been muffled, and crushed.

Has the word “repentance” somehow been removed from the dictionary? Has it somehow been removed from the capacity of the human mind to utter…or has it simply been forgotten?

The word - repentance - seems not to be in our national vocabulary - personal, religious, or national. We seldom if ever hear it on TV, radio, and yes, even in churches. It seems to be avoided like the plague. In churches and religious environments, almost any subject is discussed with great enthusiasm and conviction…but repentance? I sometimes wonder if somehow it has been secretly stricken from the religious and national vocabulary!

Leadership, whether religious or secular, avoids the word like the plague. I sometimes wonder if in some secret way the knowledge of it has been blotted out, expunged from the national mind and individual mind.

I have said this will not be long.

But…

the life of a nation. your life and mine, depends in a very large way on whether we will examine our lives and our hearts, deeds, and attitudes toward Jesus Christ and, regardless of what we think we will find, whatever we find that is not Christ centered, we must REPENT… the word means to turn from our own way TO Christ and His way. In short, we must turn from the ways of a sin filled world to the ways of God.

A world may not. Our nation may not.

But you and I must. Because we know the meaning of the word. And we will have to give an account to Him.

"Or do you assume that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed were worse sinners than all the others who live in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways and live changed lives], you will all likewise perish.” - Luke 13:4-6
