Whatever Happened To Sin?
Date Posted: May 1, 2016

Its such a small word, this word “sin”, to have such disastrous consequences. A word that has destroyed kingdoms and individuals. It all begins with pernicious thoughts, feelings, and finally escalates to small thoughts, desires, and finally the act that completes the circle of destruction of everything right and valuable.

Today it seems to be increasingly the norm. The subject is seldom even mentioned. Immorality has finally been enshrined. The road that was once at least level, has cascaded into a plunge into unspeakable acts. Shame has perished. Now it is Sin City. Eventually, it becomes the ruler from which nothing escapes. There is no where to turn and escape from its bondage.

All down through history it has left its mark. From ancient civilizations, to Bible times, to the age of crusades, until our modern “enlightened” times. Nations have fallen under the weight of this little word: Sin. Even among modern Christian civilizations, it is on the verge of subverting the strongest of defenses, where there should the greatest resistance and awareness. Even in circumstances where sin should be recognized for what it is, there is often hardly a reluctant mention of it.

This is the bad news…but there is good news if…Oh but how big is the little word “if”!

Jesus Christ became sin for us, so that our sins would not be held against us, IF we will repent of all that is our way…the way we think, the way we speak, the words we say, the way we conduct ourselves public and private. Some years ago, a then popular singer had a hit song in which a phrase was repeated over and over, “…but I did it my way”. The person in the song was proud of the fact he had lived his way, although the life he portrayed was filled with problems and sorrows.

It could be summed up with just one word: sin.

And so it has been since the disaster in the Garden.

But God provided a remedy for the curse of sin, if the world would accept it…if you will accept it. If you continue to “do it my way” you will miss the remedy. Without the remedy of faith in Jesus Christ, and repentance of all that is sin in your life, you will stand before Jesus Christ - the very one who could have saved you - and be condemned and tossed into a lake of fire in eternal punishment.

You do not have to follow the crowd. You do not have to continue doing it your way. However, as the Senate Chaplain prayed before that assembly just after the Second World War, “turn us Lord…for we are hard to turn!” But you do not have to be hard to turn…and continue to carry the burden of sin. The One who became our sin-bearer is reaching out to all who will with forgiveness and eternal love.

The world described above we must all live in, but we do not need to be part of its sin and lack of repentance. Lets us not be “hard to turn”. May you turn to Him in repentance, and He will set you free. He continues to wait for all who will turn from a sinful way to His way. It is the only way to be forgiven the past, not be condemned at the judgment, and live forever.

He continues to be wait for you to do it His way...

"At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30
