'Christ in You...'

"Where You Are"
Date Posted: February 22, 2015

Once upon a time long ago in the hills of the deep South, a woman had a mission - a personal, self-appointed calling. She traveled from neighborhood to neighborhood, from hillside to hillside with a message. A message for everyone she came in contact with.

Her message she had set to the music of her voice. To every farmhouse, every little community, to every individual she would meet, she sang the same refrain: "...let your light shine, where you are; let your light shine WHERE YOU ARE..." - over and over where ever she traveled, she sang over and over: "let your light shine where you are". Of course, almost everyone knew what she meant by those words. And it is said that some began to live a different life. To believe in Jesus Christ - and let their light shine also - "where they are".

Whether the story is true or not, it certainly brings back memories of childhood times in a church class for children when I was taught a similar refrain: "let your little light shine, let your little shine...", etc. All that was needed to be the same as the message in the hills of the South long ago is, the "WHERE YOU ARE".

But the principle spoken in both is certainly full of Biblical truth. If you and I have the light of Jesus Christ in us, even if it is little, we ought to let it shine - "WHERE WE ARE". You - if you are a true Christian - should let your light shine - where you are. If it is real, the light of the Holy Spirit in you, and the light of Jesus WILL SHINE. You cannot prevent it from shining. The light of your life - who you are, all that is YOU, cannot keep from shining where ever you are.

In many ways, it is a heavy responsibility to realize that no matter what you do, or try to be, your light will shine for other to see where you are. Regardless of where you go, or what you do, your light will shine. Everyone has a "light". And we cannot prevent it from shining. Therefore, we need to be living so close to Jesus Christ, and responsive to the Spirit's nudging, that the light of God will show forth honesty, a caring heart, genuine humility and love that will automatically illuminate others around us.

Also, the opposite is true. If our lives are governed by darkness, the darkness of this world, and the influence of satanic powers, that darkness will also manifest, and influence others around us.

This now beautiful earth that we live on was once just the opposite. God intervened, turned the darkness of the earth into marvelous light: "In the beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; and God separated the light from the darkness." - Genesis 1:1-4

However, satanic powers plunged the world into spiritual darkness, that influenced mankind beginning in the Garden of Eden. The light of humanity was plunged into spiritual darkness. But God provided a remedy, a deliverance from this darkness - the Son of God, Jesus Christ: "In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it." - John 1:4-5

There is a spiritual darkness that permeates those who have not believed in the Light of Jesus, that can deepen into an indescribable darkness (Jude 1:12-13)

This entire world has plunged into a very deep darkness. But if you are surrendered to Jesus Christ, you have passed out the darkness into the light, the Light of the marvelous love of Christ: "The Father has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love," - Colossians 1:13.

A satellite picture of the dark side of the earth show tiny spots of light all over the earth. Some are clusters of the light of large cities; others are so small as to almost be indiscernible. But it is light, although tiny and almost invisible. it is there. But all around the world, otherwise it is deep darkness.

So it is with a world that is mostly spiritual darkness. "But if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the very light in you is darkened, how dense is that darkness!" - (Matthew 6:23)

But if the light of Christ is in you, you are not darkness. Do you feel like your light is too small, so small it can't be seen? Whoever you are, where ever you are, your light - if you are light - will be seen. It will enlighten all those around you.

"...let you light shine - where you are"..

"That you may show yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked and wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world." - Philippians 2:15 (AMP)
