Why We Do What We Do
Date Posted: March 12, 2017

Unknowingly, from childhood we are being molded, shaped, and controlled in our mind and spirit by an unseen influence.

Unless there is intervention by training, teaching, and discipline by parents or others, our minds are naturally influenced by the world around us - a world of many influences. Some of these influences may be good or relatively ineffective on a young mind, but being young, our minds are like a "blank check", ready to be filled in with the around. An around of sounds, words, objects which are automatically imprinted on a young mind and spirit.

This is the natural world of the around. And the natural world is controlled and fashioned by an invisible influence completely unrealized by all who have not been informed of this influence. Having not been taught of this invisible reality. Most do not - indeed cannot - resist its influence. The Apostle Paul describes this unseen influence:

"You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God]." - Ephesians 2:1

Others, who have known and been taught from childhood the way not be molded by Satan and this world, can be better prepared to resist this unseen influence. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy of the value of the Bible:

"All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; 17 so that the [a]man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16 (AMP)

We do not know for sure about Timothy, other than the fact that he had a Godly and loving mother who taught him the scriptures, and brought him up to learn from them, and to believe in Jesus Christ. Because of his upbringing, and his faith, he became one the most effective pastors recorded in the Bible.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ? Do you have children? If so, they are being molding and influenced by an unseen power without realizing it. If you do not believe in Jesus, and have not surrendered to Him in faith, your children will be influenced by the unseen power of Satan. As time goes by, they will absorb more and more of this world and its ways, Depending on their nature, influence by their parents and the world around them, they tend to simply go the way of the world around them. And that world around them will influence them to think, speak, and believe what they see, feel, and imitate the world. The older they get, the deeper the depth of the world's ways they will absorb.

But there is hope - for you, and your children.

Read and believe the Bible. Let your young children see you, as you read, pray, and turn to believe in Jesus Christ. Let them see and hear you pray in sincerity and humility. Teach them verbally, no matter how young. The younger they are, the more inclined they will be to hear the truth of the Gospel and do what it teaches. Then in later years, they will be much less likely to depart from the ways of God in their life. In the process, both parents and children can be saved from the affects of Satan and this present world. You and your children will be inclined to do as God would have you do.

Your believing and the doing of the word of God will become what you will do, and will result in eternal life. Sins of the past are forgiven when you repent, and as you do, all will lead to eternal life. Because of Timothy's mother's devotion to the scriptures, Timothy became one of the most effective Pastors of all time. You may never be a Pastor, but the implied example of Timothy's mother's teaching is proof of the value of teaching your children the Bible:

"... from childhood you have known the sacred writings (Hebrew Scriptures) which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus [surrendering your entire self to Him and having absolute confidence in His wisdom, power and goodness]. - 2 Timothy 3:15
