Blueprint #19: Joseph Goes to Egypt
Date Posted: February 7, 2006

The Lord gave us the blueprint of His Word to architect our family on Jesus Christ.

Going through the Bible with your family…

Weekly Scripture:
Genesis 37:25-39:23

Story:
Joseph Goes to Egypt

Application:
The testing God permits, cultivates godly character.

Summary:
Joseph did nothing to deserve the difficult times he went through, but God permitted them to test and prove him. Joseph learned to trust God and be obedient in ALL things. When Joseph proved his faithfulness in the smaller things, God then gave more important things into his hands to be steward over.

Focus:
Joseph trusted the Lord even in the midst of his trials. Do you trust God even when the going gets tough? God always has a purpose for everything we go through.

Finding Christ:
Joseph was known as a type of the suffering Messiah. In this passage we see that Judah betrays Joseph for shekels of silver and later Judas betrays Jesus for shekels of silver as well. Tamar in Genesis 38 ends up being in the lineage of our Messiah.

Living the Lesson:
Prepare an obstacle course in your home that the children cannot view beforehand. Explain to each child that one parent will be their "helper" and the other will be their "enemy." Put the blindfold on the child and have the "helper" speak so that the child will recognize the voice of the "helper." Have the "enemy" speak so the child can discern the voice of the "enemy." Now have both the "helper" and the "enemy" yell out directions to the child to help through or detour from the course. The enemy may even lie, but the helper will always tell the truth and guide. Will the child obey and trust the helper even though they cannot see the way? Will the child fear the lies of the enemy and be snagged?

Memory Verse:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5

Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust You in all I do. Help me to commit all my ways to You and not to lean on my understanding, but to walk in obedience to You and Your Word.

Living the Life:
This week discuss with your children all the things that concern them and remind them Who they should place their trust in. Teach them that trials produce fruit of the spirit in our lives.
