Blueprint #23: Israelites are Slaves, Moses is Born
Date Posted: March 7, 2006

(An obstacle challenge proves to us that we must trust God as we learn with Moses that God will make a way.)

The Lord gave us the blueprint of His Word to architect our family on Jesus Christ.

Going through the Bible with your family…

Weekly Scripture:
Exodus 1:1-2:10

Story:
Israelites are slaves, Moses is born

Application:
God will make a way through intervention to accomplish His will.

Summary:
When a new pharaoh comes into power who does not recall Joseph, this pharaoh decides to make the Israelites into slaves and then begins killing off all sons in Egypt by ordering them to be thrown into the Nile River. Moses’ mother saw that he was a beautiful child and hid him for three months. She then put him in a basket and hid him in the reeds among the Nile’s bank. Pharaoh’s daughter finds him and pays Moses’ mother to care for him until he is weaned. Then Moses was raised in the royal household.

Focus:
We can trust God will accomplish His plans which no man (not even Pharaoh) can prevent. The same is true with the plan He has for each of our lives.

Finding Christ:
Moses was born during the reign of a cruel king. Pharaoh was putting to death the infant boys in an attempt to keep his kingdom from being overtaken by the Hebrews (Exodus 1:22). Herod also feared losing his kingdom to the Jews and issued a decree to kill infant boys to attempt to put an end to it, so Joseph and Mary escaped to Egypt with Jesus (Matthew 2:16).

Live the Lesson:
Figure out a challenge that your children cannot overcome themselves. For instance make a long path from one side of the living room to the other or if you have stairs have them standing at the top or bottom. Explain to your children they must find a way to reach the opposite side without touching the ground, climbing on the couches, sliding down the banister, etc. Once they get to the other side you have something special planned for them. Give them time to solve this on their own, but if they cannot wait until they ask you for help. The only solution will be to ask Dad or Mom to carry them from the one side to the other. Explain to them that this is how our lives often seem with God. It looks impossible, but if we will trust God, He will deliver us to accomplish the plan He has for our lives. Time for something special planned…such as a family movie with popcorn, ice cream at the park, etc. (see http://www.familyblueprint.org/family_tips.htm#tip1 for a special tip on ice cream at the park)

Memory Verse:
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord…" Jeremiah 29:11

Prayer:
Dear Lord, please help me to trust in you. Help me to know you have a plan for my life and you will find a way to accomplish Your will, even when it looks impossible to me.

Living the Life:
This week talk about times in your lives when you have seen God come through in a mighty way. It may do well to read stories by missionaries of the wonderful things the Lord has done to help them spread the Gospel.
