Blueprint #30: Moses and the Tabernacle
Date Posted: April 25, 2006

(Chocolate shakes made in a blender, along with Moses, help us to understand that God is a God of order and details.)

The Lord gave us the blueprint of His Word to architect our family on Jesus Christ.

Going through the Bible with your family…

Weekly Scripture:
Exodus 24-30

Story:
"Moses and the Tabernacle"

Application:
Understanding that God has an order.

Summary:
Moses shared with the children of Israel all God said and they agreed to obey. Moses was called up to the mountain again to receive the law of commandments written on tablets of stone. The children of Israel could see God’s glory like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. Moses remained for 40 days and nights on the mountain. The Lord told Moses to request free-will offerings from the people and gave him the pattern of the tabernacle. Moses was given very detailed patterns for the building and all the details.

Focus:
We need to comprehend that just as God had an EXACT plan for the tabernacle, so he has an EXACT plan for families and how they should live.

Finding Christ:
Just as the tabernacle was the place the people met with God in the Old Testament, today we meet with God through Christ, "the Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled) among us." John 1:14

Live the Lesson:
Do you remember in school when you used to practice sequencing parts of a story to make it come together in the right order? Our object lesson today is designed in this manner. Beforehand prepare index cards numbered and with directions as listed for each number below: (1) Get out a blender and take off the lid. (2) Add vanilla ice cream. (3) Add milk. (4) Add some chocolate syrup. (5) Put lid back on blender. (6) Blend on high until well blended. (7) Pour into glasses. (8) Add whipped cream to top. (9) Drizzle with chocolate syrup. (10) Add a spoon and straw. (11) Serve the glasses to your family. (12) Drink up and enjoy!

Hide these cards around the room in which you will do family time. Have each child take a turn looking for one card at a time. As they find it put it first in the order. Have the next child take a turn and that card becomes second in order, etc. When all 12 cards are found and are put in the EXACT order in which they were found, tell the family it is time for chocolate shakes. Read out the direction from the first card found and ask them to follow it. Then read the second one, etc. As they realize this will NEVER work (unless you have "a Dr. David Shormann* only knows the statistic of the chance of finding" the cards in the correct order), share with them how important order is. Put the recipe in the correct order and make it together. Speak about how God designed our families to have order as well. God is not a god of confusion. We each have our roles in the family unit that are very important and designed by God, just as God designed every single detail of the tabernacle.

Memory Verse:
"This is the way, walk in it." Isaiah 30:21

Prayer:
Dear Lord, please help us to turn to Christ our tabernacle and find Your blessing in the order of our family.

Living the Life:
This week discuss with your children the roles of family members and why the order is important.
