Grow in Grace
“. . . grow in the grace and knowledge of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory
both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
Children of God should grow each day. Our new growth strengthens our beliefs. Even when we have times of questioning we come out stronger.
In 1996, my husband, our son and I helped move my dad and stepmother into a nice brick home from a mobile home. They had lived in the country for about 25 years. Both of them had developed major health issues and Dad wanted them to be located where ( Click for more )
Come, Rest
“Then, because so many people were coming and going
that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them,
‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’”
Mark 6:31 (NIV)
In my past, I remember I’d rush around getting things done. One December I decorated our living room foe Christmas in 45 minutes. That’s all the time I had that Saturday. Our son was in elementary school, he was in the church Christmas play-that practice was two hours long in the morning. The pastor’s ( Click for more )
In going through a computer crash and dealing with a technician whom I found short on my idea of customer service, learning a new computer system and word processing software, I felt a bit stressed. That was one week lately.
The next week started out almost like the first. I spent Monday morning trying to call a nearby institution. I had an item to drop off to them and needed to do it that day. No one was there. I finally called the contact person for the third time in two days. She told me I could drop off the item at her house.

As God’s children, we are led by Him as we walk through each day. The Israelites followed Moses and later Joshua, under the Lord’s leading, into the land promised them by Father God.
“By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light so they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left them.” Exodus 13:20-21 (NIV)

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Romans 8 26 (NIV)
Last Saturday, I attended an informational breakfast hosted by a friend who works as a parent advocate for families with special needs children. Another friend spoke to us about dyslexia. This second lady and her husband tutor children who have this particular learning disability.
These two ladies are passionate about their work. My interest in ( Click for more )
We spend a lot of time waiting on something or someone. My husband waits for me to get ready to go somewhere. Sometimes that role is reversed.
I spend quite a bit of time waiting for a stop light to change to green or for oncoming traffic to clear out so I can make my turn.
Recently, we waited for the mail to bring us copies of photos taken by our son when he was camping. The mailer arrived wrapped in plastic. It had gotten damaged in transit, taking extra time to make it to our door.
Expectant parents wait for the blessed ( Click for more )
“For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” Matthew 12:50 (NIV)
I have often wondered why friends of mine and I have to go through difficult times. Some have faced great loss of loved ones, extended periods of unemployment, lengthy illnesses, or prolonged times of depression.
A family recently lost a son/brother. This was the second loss of a child for the parents. They buried him on a Saturday and came to worship service the next day. Their presence was a testimony that spoke to each of the others present that ( Click for more )
God has been especially real to me to me this week. I can feel His presence; those arms of love surround me as we await word from our son.
Our son lives 600 miles away from our home. He’s on a week’s vacation from his job. At almost the last minute, he changed his plans and chose to go to Rocky Mountain National Park to tent camp. If you met him, you’d probably call him a loner—he went camping by himself.
When he called and told us of his finalized plans, I asked him to call us while he was gone. My reason for doing this was purely selfish—I ( Click for more )
“Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
Thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine
hand against the wrath of mine enemies,
and thy right hand you save me.
The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me:
Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth forever:
forsake not the works of thine own hands.”
Psalm 138:7-8 (KJV)
I found this passage in the King James Version of the Bible. When I share this verse with others, I refer them to that version.
Several years ago, I heard words that saddened me. My nerves ( Click for more )
