Jesus Prayed Alone

In those days he went out to the mountains to pray,

and all night he continued to pray to God

Luke 6:12 (ESV)

Jesus had a communication line with his Father. He made use of it regularly. In this passage, Luke speaks of one crucial time, the night before Jesus chose the twelve Apostles. He needed to choose some of his followers as special members of his ministry team.

Jesus must have felt the need to make this a matter of prayer. This was no small need. These men would form the nucleus of his earthly ministry. He continued in prayer. His praying was not a simple sentence, one-time utterance. He prayed repeatedly all night long.

His Father honored that prayer. After Jesus’ resurrection, eleven of these chosen men and another one would carry His message to all parts of the known world. We would not have Christianity in our world today if Jesus had not prayed for guidance and the wisdom to make the right choices.

Yes, Jesus chose Judas Iscariot as one of the twelve. Could it be possible that God allowed Jesus to choose him because it was in God’s plan that early to use this person in His plan to bring Jesus back to heaven?
