God's Words For US

More Than Conquerors
Date Posted: July 12, 2019

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Recently, in reading a book for Sunday school, I ran across a question that made me think about how God has guided me through my life. The question: “What is one significant promise God Almighty has made in His Word that applies to your situation?

Just over 35 years ago, I went through a difficult time with my emotions. The buzz word of that time was to “survive”. I found myself telling people where I worked, “I just want to survive this thing I am going through.” I took 30 days personal leave and then decided I needed to resign my job in order to try to work on things I discovered during my time at home. I was truly in “survival” mode.

For me to get well, God directed me to another church, one where people were Bible-seeking, Bible reading, people. On one evening, I lay on the couch reading my Bible. I found myself reading in the Old Testament. This is the passage I read:

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today,

that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse.

Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live,

Deuteronomy 30:19 (ESV)

I sat up and reread it. To me, it meant that I needed to look not on the dark side of things but on the bright side.

Later, I found our focus verse in the writings of Paul. He lays out some scary circumstances that people face in life. The message to me is summed up in the sentence, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

As a wife and mother, I have had some very trying times. As a daughter, I have had issues with my parents that I could only resolve through God. However, God was there beside me through everything that the world has tried to throw at me. I am grateful for all He has done on my behalf.
