God's Words For US

A Prayer for Our World
Date Posted: November 3, 2017

. . . in this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (ESV)

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV)

Dear Father God;

We have seen a lot of heart-wrenching events take place in our world. Several of my friends believe they are unable to watch the news broadcasts because of what they see. Your people are concerned about the state of our world, our nation, and our families.

In our world, we have ‘religious’ wars with the heinous slaughter of innocent people just because they are selected at random to be targets. In our nation, we have had lives lost because someone or a group chose to cause mayhem for people who were trying to enjoy themselves at a concert or just taking in the beauty of a fall day, -- beauty You created.

I have read that the family was meant to be the basic unit on which You built our world. Mankind has chosen to redefine that unit to fit his ideas and wants. Our television shows have chosen to portray these ‘redefined’ families as normal. Our families have become weakened. I don’t believe You want these conditions to exist:

An ever-growing drug problem

This drug problem has reached epidemic proportions on three fronts. Street drugs that are those people can get from almost anywhere. One of which certain states have made legal. We have those substances that people make out of ingredients some of which are made to help those who need help. The other ingredients are lethal. Lastly, and more recently, we have prescription drugs that certain government people are now saying that, overall, we have done it to ourselves.

An astronomical crime rate

Our governments, local, state, and federal, have tried to stem the rise of crime through building larger jails and prisons. A small town near where we live has three prisons, two of which have been built since the 1970’s. The county jail in our town is overcrowded. The sheriff has requested funds to build a larger facility.

An ever-rising divorce rate

In some families, the instance of divorce seems to be prevalent throughout the generations. There are some times when divorce is the only answer—when there are grounds that Your Son set.

Disrespect of the elderly

This behavior is becoming more and more rampant. Every week, we read of more and more incidents where a senior citizen has been either victimized by unscrupulous business people, computer hackers, burglars, robbers, and abusers.

Fear of going out at night

At the church I belong to, one of the ministries meets once a month at noon. All the other meetings are set for 6:00 P. M. One ministry group in which I was involved met at 5:30. When I leave the church after dark, I try to leave with a group. No one has mentioned it but we all seem to do this.

The disappearance of young people

There is an element in our world that preys on our young people and cunningly draws them away from their families and turns them into modern day slaves—these unscrupulous people turn our children into sex slaves.

Dear LORD, what will it take for Your people, who profess they belong to You, to find a way to defeat all these horrific conditions, so that You will be revered, praised, and worshipped as You should be. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
