God's Words For US

A Song of Assurance

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2My help comes from the Lord,

who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your

shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep

you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this

time forth and forevermore. Psalm 121(ESV)

What does this mean to us? For me, it has become a statement of faith.

I lift up my eyes to the hills.

From where does my help come?

As I look up and around my home and neighborhood, all I see has God’s mark of creation on it. Even those items we think of as man-made ultimately came from God’s hand.

My help comes from the LORD,

Who made heaven and earth.

When we are in need of help with an issue, no matter how small or how large, we can ask God to help us. This means to me, I can ask God where I mislaid my keys as well as asking God to protect a three-year-old from complications from a basic childhood surgery.

He will not let your foot be moved;

He who keeps you will not slumber.

God will protect us at all times. He is always on the alert to hear from us. We can sleep at night because He is always on call. He does not move away from us. He stays by us in times of distress, grief, and trials as well as times of joy and gladness.

Behold, he who keeps Israel will never slumber nor sleep.

Understand that God does not tire. He is always active and always present. Even in our worst moments, we can know He is with us. Just because we wear down from excess activity, God goes strong and is always alert to help us through.

The Lord is your keeper;

The LORD is your shade on your

Right hand.

God keeps His children, you and me, from harm. Several years ago, I remember reading in our local newspaper about a furnace that blew up in a local factory. That next Sunday in Sunday school, I heard a man tell us that he overslept one morning that previous week and went into work late. When he arrived in his department, he learned that the furnace next to him had exploded. God protected him from serious injury.

The sun shall not strike you by day,

Nor the moon by night.

If we ask, God will protect us, His children, from the elements. One time when we were in Kansas, visiting our son, there was a horrendous storm headed toward us from the west. The weather men on TV warned people new to Fort Riley that this was a storm to take seriously. I prayed for protection for all in its path. Suddenly the storm, which contained three tornadoes, turned and went to the north.

The LORD will keep you from all evil;

He will keep your life.

God will keep His children, you and me, out of all trouble. Once we trust God implicitly, we know He will guide us through those quagmires of issues that can explode in our lives and cause great injury-emotional, physical, and psychological.

The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in

From this time forth and forever-

More.

God does not put a time limit on protecting us. He commits to keeping us safe from the time we are conceived until He takes us home to live with him.
