God's Words For US

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (NIV)

The Sunday school class I attend is studying an excellent book about modeling Jesus in our daily lives. The author used the above verse to say we all have the same job description in God’s Kingdom.

When I was online recently I received a chat message from a young woman from church. She asked me to pray for her as she tries to work through an issue she had. She ended the first message with this statement. “I’m asking you to pray for me because I know you will.” I was touched that she would believe that of me. I sent her a few articles pertaining to her circumstance.

Every time we walk out our front doors, we represent Jesus. People have asked me where I attend church shortly after I meet them.

When I worked at a small community library, I waited on this one woman, who was in there a lot. Her six-year-old grandson was always with her. One Monday morning, she came in and said, “I saw you in church yesterday.” I immediately thought, “Was I behaving myself?” Sometimes, I was not sure if I did.

I remember a statement written by E. Stanley Jones that told me a lot about how believers should behave. He wrote that funeral directors and surgeons can tell when they work with someone who is a believer. He went on to say that, these professionals have said when they work with Christian believers, the believers take things more in a calmer way.

Yet, when we follow Jesus, it costs us something. We have to surrender our egos to Him. I have a friend who asked me a question about what she should do in a certain situation. In my mind, I thought it she should not act on the step she had to take. The words that came out of my mouth were totally not what I had thought. I told her we needed to pray about it, asking Jesus the best way to handle the issue. We are all Jesus’ ambassadors.

The issue resolved itself because we allowed Jesus to speak to the other person. Even when we talk to our Christian friends, we still are His ambassadors.

When we ask Jesus into our hearts, we surrender who we are, how we act, and what we say to His control. In other words, we are to take our orders from Jesus Christ.

When we submit to Jesus, we risk our relationship with our neighbors, our co-workers and friends, and even our families. His Will becomes the first order of business in our lives. We turn our daily schedules over to Him.

Dear Lord Jesus:

Please help us to remember we are all Your ambassadors. Remind us that you are in control at all times. Guide us as we minister in Your Name. Supply us with the words You want us to say and the acts You want us to do. We realize You do these things out of Your grace for Your children. Amen.
