Courage

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage,

and he shall strengthen thine heart:

wait, I say, on the LORD.”

Psalm 27:14(KJV)

I found the above scripture in a Bible Promise Book for Women. It makes me slow down and think about its message.

David tells his readers, then and now, to ‘wait on the LORD.’ He wants those readers to fully understand it because he says it two times in twenty words.

How many times have I run ahead of the Lord? If I were to have instant replay of my life events, I would see several times I forged on ahead and made a bigger mess of things.

How many times have I taken things into my own hands and worn myself out from worry? In the past, I would worry about an upcoming event and my fretfulness would be all for naught. Most of the time, I would expend a lot of my energy stewing about something that didn’t happen.

Why should I take this message to heart? Because, if I run ahead of the Lord,

·I would harm my fellowship with God.

·I would be telling Him that I am smarter than He.

·I would tell Him I didn’t think He was important to me.

The shepherd king tells us to be strong (NIV). Sometimes we have to be strong because others depend on us. We have those times when we are faced with someone in our family having a medical crisis.

One of my closest friends lost her sister about six weeks ago. Her brother is ill and has limited strength. God guides her each day. In the middle of clearing out her sister’s belongings, she recently had her daughter and son-in-law and a nephew and his wife for supper. The son-in-law’s mother had surgery that day and the nephew’s wife has been seriously ill. I know where her strength comes from; it comes from God.

A family I know had to be strong when one of their young adults had a problem that went through the legal system. This was a prolonged time for the entire family. Several of us still pray for the family and for this young adult.

David tells us that God will strengthen our hearts. Whatever comes into our lives makes us stronger because God is with us. When we learn to ask God, “What do you want me to learn from this?” We grow spiritually.

I saw a picture online with a definition of courage. It spoke to me:

Courage

Is not going on with something.

It is going on when you think you can’t go any further.

Theodore Roosevelt

God made this wonderful plan for His children. God calls us through His prevenient grace. We ask Him into our hearts and work for Him. He guides us, protects us, and allows us to grow in our faith. When our time on earth comes to an end, He takes us to heaven to live with Him there for eternity.
