God's Words For US

God gives images to help us through times of trial, or doubt. The following verses are some of my favorites because of the metal image I receive when I remember them.
“Give and it will be given to you,. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 (NIV)
Whenever I read this passage, I think of brown sugar. When we use brown sugar in a recipe, we are told to pack it tightly into the measuring cup. When we pack the brown sugar into that cup we don’t leave room for any air. God grants us forgiveness and blessings that are pressed down and running over.
“but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings as eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
Have you ever watched birds glide through the air? They look graceful as they float, not having any stress or friction in their motion. Isaiah tells us if we wait on the Lord to work we will be able to get through trials with ease, as gracefully as those birds on wing. I have seen beautiful paintings and sculptures of eagles depicting these words.
“He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalm 91:4 (NIV)
A dear friend used to sing “Under His Wings” and refer to this scripture. She demonstrates God and His love to all those around her. She rarely gets frazzled about events that life presents to her. She soon has to undergo some extra medical tests. She shared with a prayer group that she was not worried about the test or its outcome because she knew God was with her no matter what.
The mental picture I get when I read this verse is one of Jesus standing by me. He has his hands outstretched over my head and shoulders; the arms of His robes protecting me.
For these special pictures I give God thanks. As we read God’s word, let us all look for passages that speak to our hearts and maybe give us mental pictures to help us through the rough times of our lives.
Dear Father God; Thank You for Your inspired Word. Because of that Word, we learn of You and how we should live. Thank you for Your protection during times that could be stressful. Thank You for reminding us of the great love You have for us, Your children. We give You all the praise. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. AMEN
