God's Words For US

God Is Greater

Do we think often enough about the greatness of God? Don’t we sometimes allow ourselves to get bogged down in our cares and concerns that we can’t see anything but the dark side of events or conditions that come into our lives?

Parents and grandparents used to teach young children a table grace, “God is great, God is good and we thank Him for our food. By His hand we are fed, Thank You, God for our daily bread.” Did we learn what these words mean? A Google search give us this meaning for the word great, “of an extent, amount, or intensity considerably above the normal or average.” I believe God’s greatness surpasses this definition.

God created our earth with its oceans, lakes, and rivers. He made the lands that farmers work to grow our food. He created trees to provide shade, beauty, shelter and warmth for His children, us

A friend of mine had a relative ask some penetrating questions recently. This relative asked why God allowed children to get violated. My friend’s answer was simply that God was not in those events. Man did them.

When we hear of atrocities done to groups of people, we wonder about the motive behind the actions. We might ask ourselves, “Where is God in all this?” He is right there watching and waiting to comfort those who suffer injury and loss because some group chooses to incite terror into the lives of others.

Even when we commit sin, God is there to forgive us when we ask. He overlooks our shortcomings because He made us. One of my favorite hymns has a line that says, ‘God grace is greater that all our sins.” In order for God to have that much grace, He has to be greater than anything.
