God's Words For US

How Long, Father, How Long?

“But when time had fully come, God sent his son, born of a woman,” Galatians 4:4 (NIV)

Sometimes we, as children of God go through times of trial that seem to hang on forever. We want the tough times to go away but they don’t. We pray and ask God to take them away from us. But this might be the wrong thing to do.

From time to time, God allows hard events to happen to us because He uses those trials to foster our spiritual growth. When we ask Him to take that issue away from us, we might impede some work He wants to do in our lives.

Likewise, when we intercede in prayer for a friend who faces a difficult turn of events all we should ask for is that God be with him or her through the trial and guide them to make wise decisions.

We are impatient people. No one likes to wait for anything. A friend had to wait a minute and a half for her blood pressure reading to be completed. She told her husband, who helps her with this procedure that it took a long time. We are spoiled by microwave ovens and drive through windows at fast food restaurants and the many labor-saving devises we own.

In the Old Testament, Sarah was impatient. She took things into her own hands. We all know how that turned out. People of God need to learn that God is in control and will do what he says at the time He deems right.

As chlidren, we disliked having to wait for Christmas or our birthday. As children of God, we don’t want to wait for Him to take care of our problems. I remember a pastor telling us that his wife had a picture of a man with megaphone up to his mouth. The words that came out were: “Give me patience, RIGHT NOW!”

One of my supervisors would listen to our complaints about the process our work went through. Her reply was always the same, “These things take time.”

When we ask God to do something we have to wait for Him to perform His deeds in our behalf. He might determine that we are not ready for what we request. God might want to clean up our act before He entrusts us with what we request.

Several years ago, I went through a prolonged period of depression. I had been seeing a counselor but changed to another one. I spent quantity time studying my Bible. I learned some very basic things.

1.) * God always has the last say.

The story of Ananias and Sapphira Acts 5:1-11

2.) * God made me and he knows my emotions.

G God saw us when we were unformed. Psalm 139:13-16

3.) * We have to Totally Rely Upon (the) Savior’s Timing. Psalm 3:5-6

Tr Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding.

How does God answer when we ask Him the question: How long will it take before this will work out? He tells us to turn that issue, that trial, that problem over to Him. His Word tells us He is patient and He acts on requests in His time and in His way.

Father God;

Thank You for who You are, for being there for us, for Your great love, and Your great wisdom. We stand in awe of how You work out our needs in Your time. We love You. We give you praise. In Jesus’ name, we pray. AMEN
