“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’

says the Lord Almighty.” Zechariah 4:6 (NIV)

I attended the opening service of a revival in a church in the northern part of our county this past Wednesday evening. Our pastor was the guest evangelist. The pastor of the church and his wife are friends I met at church 30 years ago. Our focus scripture served as the basis of the sermon.

The Holy Spirit’s Presence

The friend who drove two of us up there had an epiphany experience. Her older daughter’s husband who is very gravely ill could be facing a long recovery. Two young girls brought special music. They chose two gospel songs, one by Casting Crowns (Praise You in this Storm). The lyrics spoke to her. We decided that this mother was supposed to be at that particular meeting on that night.

The Holy Spirit’s Work

From time to time, I get to encourage my friends. Another of my friends has a lot going on around her. Her sister has been in a hospital and is now in an assisted living facility in the southern part of our state. Their mother is in one here in our town.

My friend shared with me her concern of having to tell her mother about her sister’s circumstances. She asked me what she should do. I thought of what I would have done several years ago. Instead, I suggested we take the time to pray about this need.

The next day, the sister called my friend and said she wanted to talk to their mother. My friend went to mother’s assisted living facility and waited for her sister to call back. This mother heard her older daughter’s situation. The Holy Spirit took my friend out of the equation and allowed the mother to know about her older daughter’s condition first hand.

Being a part of these two events humbled me and I am thankful for my salvation and the privilege of knowing the Lord.
